Warning!

July 27th, 2009 jkjames 1 comment

Looks like even I might have to stop downloading stuff soon! The last place in the world I thought would crack down on internet downloading is here in Korea. But, I guess every country on this planet will fold to  piracy laws eventually. It’s a shame to, because they make it so hard for us Americans to watch the TV shows here. Hulu is blocked here, Youtube only lets you play certain clips, and most movies don’t have a showing at theaters.

Here is a link to a website talking about the newly started crack-downs.

Latest happenings.

July 27th, 2009 jkjames 2 comments

Well, since my co-worker has yet to send me the pictures of our trip, I will just make the post without them.

Two weekends ago, myself, Sun, Mike, and his girlfriend went to YeongDuk, a smaller coastline city north of Pohang. We rented a condo for the weekend, just to get away from the big city and enjoy a mini-vacation. The city is really pretty, and has a lot of nice attractions that made for a nice weekend.

The first night there we didn’t really do much besides visit the crab district(which you can tell when you get there because every building has a GIANT crab on the front of it and several people outside trying to wave you down and get you to buy some crabs from their store.) We also found what seems to be the only real market in the area. We bought some meat, some side items, and some crabs to feed us for the night. The guys we bought the crab from seemed to be having a good night and Sun was able to swindle a free crab out of them. We made it back to the condo and the owner fired up our grill for us. We cooked, we drank, and we had a good ole’ time up until about 3am when we were just to tired to stay awake. The next morning we woke up at around 9am and were on the road to find us a beach. We got to the beach only to find that the water was freezing and ended our stay a little early. In the end it turned out to be a good weekend.

The week that followed was a busy week for me, with my co-worker gone for a class in Japan. I took on the role of not only doing my job but, his too! Only one cool thing happened all week, and that was the eclipse that was seen here in Asia. It was the largest eclipse to happen in a century and, only the second one I have seen my whole life(The first one being when I was in elementary school.)

Over the past weekend, I found out through a phone call with my mom, that I will be an uncle next March. I don’t really know how to take it. I always thought I would be the first child in my family to have a kid but, I guess Jake beat me to the punch. I hope he is ready for this and I wish him luck. This will definitely change things around in his life a bit! Sun also called me yesterday when her and her father were in Busan, and told me that some lady had ran her car into ours. This is a good thing, it means I don’t have to pay for make the car look better. The big break I have been waiting for, for awhile :D I am excited to have someone else pay! I can’t wait to see how it looks when we get the car back!

That is all that has happened to me lately. I would like to hear about the readers happenings, KYLE!

And finally a comic that I thought was to true not to post.

Google.com Easter Eggs!

July 13th, 2009 jkjames 3 comments

I have always been interested in Google’s Easter eggs, so I am going to post an entry covering some of the major ones that I know of.

First, the most obvious Google egg is the Easter egg game. The idea behind this egg is to make the bunny catch the eggs spelling out Google. It is kind of a boring waste of time but, still an egg!

http://www.google.com/Easter/feature_easter.html

The second egg I enjoy involves using Google Calculator. Google having some majorly geeky people working for them often input sneaky little things into their search engine including the answer to life! If you go to a Google search prompt and type:

“answer to life the universe and everything”

Google will prompt you with the answer from a popular movie by saying “answer to life the universe and everything =42″. The same can be done by typing in a few other entries into their search engine such as:

“number of horns on a unicorn” and “once in a blue moon”

If anyone has ever played a game by Konami then you might be aware of their famous cheat code. Using Google Reader hit the following keys to reveal a little secret the programmers have hidden from you “Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Ride B A”. Those sneaky little guys have hid some ninjas right there on your reader homepage!

Another sneaky thing they have put in is on Picasa their image hosting and gallery site, when you go to your Picasa site hit the keys “CTRL+SHIFT+Y” to add a little teddy bear to your screen. You can do this as many times as you would like until you have had your limit of pretty little bears. I don’t know if it is really fun or disturbing.

Those are the only ones I could think of, if you have any good ones please share with me :D

Something NEW!

July 13th, 2009 jkjames No comments

Over the past week I manged to pick up a Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM for my camera thanks to my co-worker Mike! This lens will replace the stock lens that came with my camera and help me with some normal shooting at closer ranges which my other lens won’t let me do.

I haven’t got a chance to see how much better of a lens it is over my first one yet, but I can’t wait! I have to wait for it to stop raining first :(

Half Mast?!

July 9th, 2009 jkjames 3 comments

So, yesterday I was in the taxi on my way to work when the taxi driver(Mr. Kwon) ask me “Why front not top only half?”. At first I was like what the hell did you say to me? Did you just make a reference to me having a small penis? It set me back a little but, as I sat there it got me thinking, “Korean people don’t often make snide remarks, and Mr. Kwon is a good guy so, maybe he was referring to something else.” I must have been thinking for quite some time before I realized he was talking about the flag at the front of the building was flying at half mast. It all makes much sense now! I, however was still confused… Why is the flag at half mast? I get to the office and ask the people who usually keep up to date on worldly happenings and, no one has a clue. I thought to myself “Please don’t say they put the flag at half mast for that child violator Michael Jackson!” I looked it up on the interweb called some other people and sure enough the only answer I could get out of anyone was that it was indeed done that way for Sicko Jackson.

I really cannot believe that USAG-Daegu(Because that is the only place I am certain the flag was at half mast) would lower the flag for a celebrity but not for your normal soldiers! Michael wasn’t even in the military! We have soldiers going to their grave everyday and they don’t even get that kind of respect. Usually the lower the flag when a state official or general dies(Which I understand).  However, I cannot understand normal everyday celebrities.

Yea, well anyways! I got confused and I didn’t get Mr. Kwon his answer. Maybe next time there will be a valid reason why the flag is at half mast and I won’t have to explain to him why we lower our flag for 50 year old children. Oh, and I got a haircut yesterday… It looks pretty snazzy if I say so myself :D Later peoples!

Happy 4th of July Weekend!

July 2nd, 2009 jkjames 1 comment

I hope everyone has a happy 4th of July weekend, and remember why we celebrate this holliday! It is not just about the BBQ’s and fireworks, it’s about the greatest nation on the planet earth turning one more year older!

It is amazing to think the USA is only 233 years old and has claimed the title of the world’s leading superpower considering we have some countries centuries older than us. I am proud to be called an American, and you should be too! All you other tools can kiss my American butt if you got something to say bad about my country! Ha!

Don’t drink and drive, Practice safe sex, and watch your wallet some greasy mofo might run off with it if your not careful!
