Latest happenings.

Well, since my co-worker has yet to send me the pictures of our trip, I will just make the post without them.

Two weekends ago, myself, Sun, Mike, and his girlfriend went to YeongDuk, a smaller coastline city north of Pohang. We rented a condo for the weekend, just to get away from the big city and enjoy a mini-vacation. The city is really pretty, and has a lot of nice attractions that made for a nice weekend.

The first night there we didn’t really do much besides visit the crab district(which you can tell when you get there because every building has a GIANT crab on the front of it and several people outside trying to wave you down and get you to buy some crabs from their store.) We also found what seems to be the only real market in the area. We bought some meat, some side items, and some crabs to feed us for the night. The guys we bought the crab from seemed to be having a good night and Sun was able to swindle a free crab out of them. We made it back to the condo and the owner fired up our grill for us. We cooked, we drank, and we had a good ole’ time up until about 3am when we were just to tired to stay awake. The next morning we woke up at around 9am and were on the road to find us a beach. We got to the beach only to find that the water was freezing and ended our stay a little early. In the end it turned out to be a good weekend.

The week that followed was a busy week for me, with my co-worker gone for a class in Japan. I took on the role of not only doing my job but, his too! Only one cool thing happened all week, and that was the eclipse that was seen here in Asia. It was the largest eclipse to happen in a century and, only the second one I have seen my whole life(The first one being when I was in elementary school.)

Over the past weekend, I found out through a phone call with my mom, that I will be an uncle next March. I don’t really know how to take it. I always thought I would be the first child in my family to have a kid but, I guess Jake beat me to the punch. I hope he is ready for this and I wish him luck. This will definitely change things around in his life a bit! Sun also called me yesterday when her and her father were in Busan, and told me that some lady had ran her car into ours. This is a good thing, it means I don’t have to pay for make the car look better. The big break I have been waiting for, for awhile :D I am excited to have someone else pay! I can’t wait to see how it looks when we get the car back!

That is all that has happened to me lately. I would like to hear about the readers happenings, KYLE!

And finally a comic that I thought was to true not to post.

Back from Seoul!

June 25th, 2009 jkjames 3 comments

Finally made it back to Daegu last night around 10:30, we got stuck in the Seoul traffic on the way out of the city and it slowed us down quite a bit! Other than the driving the trip was ok. The class I took was informative. While we were up there Sun and I got to meet some of my old KATUSA buddies Lee HyoTae, Kim JinWoo, and Yoo JinHo.

The first day we were up there we checked into the Hamilton Hotel(Not a good place to stay!) and went out to grab something to eat. We ate KFC :( but made up for it by having some Cold Stone Creamery which was freakin’ good! After that we went for a walk to burn off some of the fat we stuffed into our bodies and back to the hotel for a good nights sleep.

The second day was the first day of class. I woke up around 7:00am to give myself enough time to fully wake up and walk to post in time to find out where the Seoul office is located. I actually got to class about 45 minutes before it was scheduled to start. Class was good, we learned a lot of functions that VMS offers that I did not already know. We finished class around 3:00pm and I went down to the lab to see what they have cooking. We are going to be getting some new tape libraries, which is freaking cool! The ones we are using now are kind of a hit or miss thing. The thing works great some days but then it will just crap out on us randomly. I am looking forward to replacing that. Around 5:00pm I left the lab and walked back over to the hotel to get ready to meet the KATUSAs. HyoTae gave me a call around 6:15pm and told me he was on his way and we were going to go eat some Mexican food. We all met up and ate some nacho’s and burritos. Then they had the great idea of walking over and having some beers. I got to pick the beers so I chose HoneyBrown and Moosehead. They were ok, I only really liked the HoneyBrown.  I was tired after the drinks and Sun looked thoroughly bored so we decided to call it a night and went home and passed out without any trouble.

The third day was a quiet day, I woke up around the same time in the morning and did the same routine. Class was the same(very useful) and I even went to the lab again after the teacher let us out. I did do a couple of things differently that day though, I talked to a guy about buying his 2004 BMW 530i for $22,000 which was a good deal but Sun informed me that it was a bad idea so we called it off. and I ate lunch with Sun at the food court on post. After work we ate dinner in the same place and started on our way home. We did manage to get caught in the Seoul traffic but as soon as we fought our way through that it was smooth sailing. We had to stop a couple of times just to use the restrooms and get some money out for the tollbooths but it really was a quiet ride.

Well that was our trip to Seoul, hope you enjoyed it!

Going to Seoul!

June 19th, 2009 jkjames 3 comments

I can’t believe I have almost been in this job for a year already! It seems impossible. This weekend myself and Sun will be going to Seoul because I have a class on Monday and Tuesday. I will also be meeting some old KATUSA friends Monday night for dinner. It has been almost 6 months since I have visited with any of them, I honestly miss those goofy dudes!

The class I will be sitting in is for VMS, a system that manages vulnerabilities on the networks myself and some others manage. I am sure the class will teach me a lot due to the fact that my knowledge of the system is VERY weak. I don’t like using the system but it is part of my job. :)

On a side note, I will also be receiving some training in the PI this fall for VMWare. This class interests me very much. I have always wanted to learn to use ESXi and they are giving me a chance! I hope the trip doesnt break my bank! Ha!

I will be adding more features to my blog soon. I have already installed a gallery, forums, and a few extra little things. If you get a chance I am also hosting my brothers website www.TakeSomeJake.com give a look-see.
