Half Mast?!
So, yesterday I was in the taxi on my way to work when the taxi driver(Mr. Kwon) ask me “Why front not top only half?”. At first I was like what the hell did you say to me? Did you just make a reference to me having a small penis? It set me back a little but, as I sat there it got me thinking, “Korean people don’t often make snide remarks, and Mr. Kwon is a good guy so, maybe he was referring to something else.” I must have been thinking for quite some time before I realized he was talking about the flag at the front of the building was flying at half mast. It all makes much sense now! I, however was still confused… Why is the flag at half mast? I get to the office and ask the people who usually keep up to date on worldly happenings and, no one has a clue. I thought to myself “Please don’t say they put the flag at half mast for that child violator Michael Jackson!” I looked it up on the interweb called some other people and sure enough the only answer I could get out of anyone was that it was indeed done that way for Sicko Jackson.
I really cannot believe that USAG-Daegu(Because that is the only place I am certain the flag was at half mast) would lower the flag for a celebrity but not for your normal soldiers! Michael wasn’t even in the military! We have soldiers going to their grave everyday and they don’t even get that kind of respect. Usually the lower the flag when a state official or general dies(Which I understand). However, I cannot understand normal everyday celebrities.
Yea, well anyways! I got confused and I didn’t get Mr. Kwon his answer. Maybe next time there will be a valid reason why the flag is at half mast and I won’t have to explain to him why we lower our flag for 50 year old children. Oh, and I got a haircut yesterday… It looks pretty snazzy if I say so myself
Later peoples!
